You’re a Unique Bird

September.11.2009

Last week some of us “Friends with Flair” decided to use a Unity stamp as a background that week.  I had originally wanted to use this little birdie stamp to make a background, but then I got sidetracked by that dill picture.  So, this week we have a little flying theme going on.  Anything that flies.  So I pulled my little birdie out again and got to work.

The pink birds are colored with a Bic marker.  The other birdie is colored with Martha Stewart glitter pens.  I drew the crown by hand and gave him a little bling.  The eye is drawn with gel pens.  I really wanted a googly eye, but I didn’t have any on hand.  How cute would he look with a googly eye?

Get Sketchy Sketch #4

Hi everyone!  Great new sketch at Get Sketchy for this week.  Here it is:

My stamping friend, Katy, sent me some super-cute stamped images a few weeks ago.  One was an ice cream cone from one of the Unity kit of the month kits.  I’ve been waiting for a chance to use it on something.  Here it is:

Then I found a stamp I had by K&Co. that I hadn’t even inked up yet.  I thought this “the scoop” stamp went perfectly with the ice cream cone stamp.

Do you like this?

Blackbird

Blackbird

I made it.  I do not like it.  It was much nicer in my head than it turned out to be in real life (most things are).  Those black border punched strips are too long or something.  Did you watch the Make a Card Monday video on kwernerdesign blog this week?  I tried that effect on my background too.  It didn’t turn out as cute.  I needed some green in there for the color challenge, so I spritzed it with some color wash first.  First time I’ve used that product, I liked it.  Then I used a paint dabber to make the “polka dots.”  They looked like eye balls when I first started.  I used two beautiful Unity stamps and then matted it on orange card stock.  I used some paper glaze to give the bird a glossy finish.  Want a closer look?

Sorry for the weird angle.
